Electoral administration
Electoral administration covers electoral legislation aimed at improving access to, confidence in and engagement with the electoral system. It is also concerned with maintaining effective voter registration procedures and the professional delivery of elections.
We are responsible for implementing legislation including the Electoral Administration Act 2006. Our responsibilities cover UK-wide elections, referendums and local government elections in England and Wales (except for mayoral referendums in Wales, which are devolved) and the registration and enfranchisement of electors. We also sponsor the Independent Parliamentary Boundary Commissions for England and Wales.
