Follow-up inspections are unannounced and proportionate to risk. In full follow up inspections inspectors assess progress made and undertake in-depth analysis.

Inspectors use the findings of prisoner surveys (where available), focus groups, research analysis of prison data and observation. This enables a reassessment of the previous healthy prison assessments.
