The Rt Hon Lord McNally

Biography

Lord McNally is a Liberal Democrat member of the House of Lords.

Education

He was educated at St Joseph’s College, Blackpool and University College London where he studied economics and social history.

Career

He worked for the Labour Party for a number of years and was appointed Head of the Political Office in 10 Downing Street in 1976. He supported the successful merger of the SDP with the Liberal Party to form the Liberal Democrats and served on the federal executive of the new party.

He was elected as the Liberal Democrat Leader of the House of Lords in October 2004 and was the Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Constitutional Affairs between 2006 and 2010.

He was previously the Deputy Leader of the House of Lords from 2010 to 2013.

Personal life

He is married with 3 children.
