Statutory Basis: Section 4 of the Public Passenger Vehicles Act 1981

Description: Traffic Commissioners are statutorily responsible for the licensing of the operators of heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) and of buses and coaches (Public Service Vehicles, PSVs). The are also involved with the registration of local bus services and disciplinary action against the drivers of HGVs and PSVs.
