Deerbolt Prison

Deerbolt is a closed young offender institution which was opened in 1973. It is situated on the outskirts of Barnard Castle, an historic market town on the edge of the A66 providing good road links to the North East and North West of the country.

Reception criteria: HMYOI Deerbolt holds young adults age 18-21. It accepts those serving sentences between 4 years to Life. However by negotiation– to be discussed with duty governor may accept those serving over 12 months to 4 years.

Deerbolt would ordinarily accommodate prisoners from the North East of England, Cumbria Yorkshire and Humberside.

Sec 53/2 should have a Movement Order.

Prisoners with outstanding or further court appearances not accepted without prior discussion with duty governor.
