The establishments’ focus is firmly fixed on reducing reoffending and preventing future victims of crime by preparing offenders for their release through accredited intervention programmes, skill and vocational based training and education, in a pro social environment.

HMP Erlestoke will strive to provide a safe, decent and secure environment for offenders, staff and visitors.
We will engage with offenders and work with our partner agencies, the voluntary sector and the wider community to offer support and a range of opportunities to those in custody. Our aim is to protect the public and to prevent future victims by focusing offenders on rehabilitation.

B. Implementing the Progression Regime and new Offender Management Model whilst preparing for a change in role as a Training & Resettlement establishment.

Accommodation: The prison currently has 8 residential units which are predominantly single cells with in cell sanitation. The induction unit has double cell accommodation to support offenders on their first night at Erlestoke.
Operational Capacity: 524
Reception Criteria: The prison is intervention-focused and whilst it will accept all Category C prisoners they will primarily be serving Sentences of 4 years or more. Erlestoke has only a limited capacity to deliver a regime and suitable living environment for wheelchair-bound offenders. Therefore such offenders are accepted only by prior agreement. The prison provides health care services but does not have in-patient facilities.
Erlestoke runs a Progression Regime to assist indeterminate/IPP sentenced prisoners to make progress in their sentence. This is run within two 40 bed single cell accommodation units. Candidates for Progression Regime are accepted only by referral.
