Erlestoke Prison information

Prison visits are temporarily suspended following instructions for people to stay at home, protect the NHS and save lives. We will update here as soon as this changes. You can also follow @HMPPS on Twitter and read a rolling update page.

There are a number of other ways to contact someone in prison if you are unable to visit them. You can:

HMP Erlestoke is a Category C establishment holding adult male sentenced offenders and from July 2018 a small cohort of Young Adults. The prison is built on the former grounds of Erlestoke Manor House and has over the past few years expanded in both offender numbers and intervention programmes.

The establishments’ focus is firmly fixed on reducing reoffending and preventing future victims of crime by preparing offenders for their release through accredited intervention programmes, skill and vocational based training and education, in a pro social environment.

The Establishments’ Commitment Statement is as follows:

HMP Erlestoke will strive to provide a safe, decent and secure environment for offenders, staff and visitors.

We will engage with offenders and work with our partner agencies, the voluntary sector and the wider community to offer support and a range of opportunities to those in custody. Our aim is to protect the public and to prevent future victims by focusing offenders on rehabilitation.

We aspire to stay true to our values, in our actions, words and behaviours.

The key principles of delivery are:

A. Maintaining a safe, secure and decent prison whilst delivering a drug and alcohol free community
B. Implementing the Progression Regime and new Offender Management Model whilst preparing for a change in role as a Training & Resettlement establishment.
C. Develop a Rehabilitative culture.
D. Motivating all offenders to engage in their rehabilitation and challenging offenders where they do not, in order to reduce the risk of reoffending
E. Working collaboratively with partner agencies including our extensive volunteer group to maximise the services that we can offer offenders
F. Our staff group is our most important resource. We will recognise and reward excellent performance. We will ensure that staff are fully supported and can adapt to challenges and change.

HMP Erlestoke is a non-smoking establishment.
