Garth Prison information

There are a number of other ways to contact someone in prison if you are unable to visit them. You can:

- send them an email using the email a prisoner service
- write to them

Garth is a category B training prison which was opened in October 1988.
A new residential unit (housing 120) opened in 1997, and a further 180 places were provided in August 2007.

Reception criteria: Determinate sentence category B prisoners serving 4 years or more, with a minimum of 2 years left to serve Indeterminate sentence category B prisoners (IPP or traditional life sentence prisoners).
Garth offers a wide range of interventions suitable for a wide range of needs and our aim is that prisoners transferring in should reasonable be bale to meet their sentence planning objectives to a level sufficient for progression.
