HMP & YOI Hatfield is a category D resettlement prison on the outskirts of Doncaster, South Yorkshire. It is very close to excellent motorway and public transport facilities including the M18, M180 and A1. Local train services are provided at Thorne North & South Train stations which has links to Doncaster and the National railway network. Local bus services are also a short walk from the establishment. HMP Hatfield is split site establishment known as Hatfield Main and Hatfield Lakes. The Lakes site is part of Hatfield but is approximately 3.5 miles away and is located at the side of HMP Lindholme. Hatfield Lakes is the smaller of the two sites with 56 large double rooms and operates as an induction and assessment centre, prisoners can expect to spend their first 3 months at this site, where they will be inducted, assessed and where appropriate made ready for ROTL. Following the initial period at the Lakes prisoners will be transferred to the main site which has 226 single rooms.
HMP Hatfield continues to push the boundaries and seek new and innovative ways to improve and enhance our performance and resettlement outcomes. We encourage prisoners to take responsibility and ownership of their lives whilst respecting others.
The most recent Inspection completed by HMIP deemed HMP & YOI Hatfield a Level 4 establishment with a Level 1 “Outstanding” Ofsted accreditation.
HMP & YOI Hatfield provides an encouraging, positive and supportive environment for all offenders to achieve their goals, develop employment opportunities and gain further education and training skills. This includes Stage 1 Community/Voluntary Working, Stage 2 paid Employment. Access to “outside” College courses and training can also be supported. Training and Education based within the establishment are various with education courses held within a purpose built education suite delivering courses in Barbering, Corporate Business, Welding, Paints, IT, Health & Safety, Maths & English, Horticulture. ROTL (Release on Temporary Licence) is offered to all offenders once there risk assessment has been completed. This allows offenders to access work, college, further training and maintain family ties in the community.
Reception & Suitability
Adult & Young Offenders (18- 21) are accepted, Lifers, ISPP & Determinate offenders are accepted in their last 2 years of sentence. Transfers from other establishments accepted by prior arrangement.
