Holme House prison visiting information
Important update – After 27 May 2017 all prisoners attending court for trial will leave the court and transfer immediately to HMP Durham. This is to facilitate the change of function of HMP Holme House which will only hold sentenced men who are Category C.

All domestic and legal visits must be pre-booked 24 hours in advance, and up to 14 days in advance for all men.
Property cannot be handed in on a visit or posted in, it must be purchased via prison shop.

Additional information: Visitors need to book in at the Visitors' Centre at least 50 minutes before the finish time for each session. Visitors aged 18 years or above are required to provide proof of identity, or they will be refused entry. A passport will be required as well as a household bill/driving licence showing the visitors address. A fingerprint and photo identity system is in operation. All visitors are searched on entry.
Visitors centre: Nepacs work in partnership with HMP Holme House to ensure there is a child-friendly and welcoming visitors’ centre. The centre is staffed by support workers and volunteers who can provide information and assistance to people visiting their loved ones. Visits Hall: The Visits Hall is accessible for those using wheelchairs. Visitors with special needs are invited to contact the Visitors' Centre in advance to allow arrangements to be put in place prior to their arrival. There is a supervised play area, which participates in special activities for school holidays, these are advertised in advance. There is a well stocked tea bar which serves a range of snacks, including healthy options. The Visits Hall has toilets and a baby changing facility. Toys are available for children on Closed Visits. The hall provides seating for three visitors per table.

Confidential Message Line: Holme House operates a strict drug supply reduction policy. Any visitors under pressure to bring drugs into the prison should leave a message on the confidential help line (01642 744000 Option 3) which will allow action to be taken to support them. Any information about drug smuggling or other issues of importance to the security of the prison can be left on this line which is confidential and checked daily.

Prison Voicemail service
Social contacts can exchange voicemails with prisoners through the Prison Voicemail service, which is available at this establishment. Family members or friends sign up online and are given a unique landline phone number which they can call at any time to leave messages. How to get there:
HMP Holme House is located on an industrial estate immediately to the west of the A19 trunk road. The prison is 4 miles west of Middlesbrough and 2 miles east of Stockton on Tees.
- Bus: (as of May 2013)
Stagecoach: (Number 13) run every 30 minutes Monday to Saturday from Middlesbrough Bus Station (Stand 20) and Stockton High Street (Post Office – Stand 27 and Wellington Square - Stand 21). Get off the bus at Portrack Lane Asda and walk 5 minutes to the prison.
Leven Valley Boroughbus: (numbers 505 and 506) run once an hour Sundays and Bank Holidays from Stockton High Street South, Stand 27 and Stockton High Street North, Stand 21. Get off the bus at Portrack Lane Asda and walk 5 minutes to the prison.
- Train: Thornaby, Stockton and Middlesbrough railway stations are all less than 5 miles from the prison.
From South: Exit A1 to A19; exit at Stockton A1046. The Prison is well signposted from slip road, approximately 1 mile.
From North: A1 to A689, then A19, exit Stockton A1046. The Prison is well signposted from slip road, approximately 1 mile.
A controlled exit car-park is available for staff. A free car park, adjacent to the visitors centre is available for visitors. There is also a controlled entry/exit car park available for visitors attending courses at the Prison Service Learning Centre.
