Accommodation: Single Rooms with fitted storage cupboards.
All rooms have privacy locks, prisoners having their own key. 140 rooms have own wet-room - these are occupied by those prisoners working out of the prison.
Normal reception arrangements: Reception follows an extensive application process for prisoners who should be Category C or D. Lifers are accepted on allocation following parole board review for open conditions.
Determinate sentence prisoners should have a minimum of 8 months and a maximum of 24 months left to serve.
All applicants must demonstrate the following:
- Evidence of a desire to change
- Evidence of a need of a resettlement regime
- Evidence that they are a manageable risk when granted temporary release
The prison focuses on helping longer term prisoners resettle in the North of England. This it does by actively encouraging them to participate in Community payback type projects in the Teesside area before progressing to paid employment in the community and/or attendance at a local college or university.
