Regime information for Leyhill Prison
Leyhill works with all types of offenders, assessing and preparing them for release. It provides an environment in which prisoners are expected to assume more responsibility and benefit from the opportunities on offer. They are also encouraged to make informed decisions for themselves.
The prison is committed to providing a range of suitable employment for prisoners and most workplaces offer training and accreditation. Current workplaces include a Wood Machine Shop, a Printing Shop, a Laundry, a range of Retail Warehousing, a Kitchen, Farms & Gardens, Market Gardens, and a gymnasium. The prison offers placements across a range of Peer Mentoring and Advice roles. The prison also offers an advice centre that specialises in advising prisoners on a range of topics prior to release.
Leyhill works in partnership with Weston College in providing appropriate employability skills and support, including English, Maths and IT. Also available are Personal Development and Social and Lifeskills programmes. These are designed to support our reducing re-offending policy and assist in sustainable resettlement.
We offer a range of vocational training, including Catering & Hospitality, Barbering and Painting & Decorating and Dry Stone Walling. Further vocational training is offered in the workplaces and includes Warehousing & Distribution and NPTC Horticulture, CYQ Fitness Instructor, BICS car valet & industrial cleaning.
The prison currently offers a wide range of work and training opportunities in the community. Prisoners are able to access invaluable work experience both voluntary and paid which supports and improves a prisoner's chance of gaining employment on release.
A Substance Misuse Team provides psychosocial interventions for prisoners with substance misuse issues. This team link closely with relevant community agencies to ensure appropriate support is available to prisoners upon release, should it be needed.
South Gloucestershire libraries operate a 7 day per week service inside HMP Leyhill.
