Booking information:

To book online, visit: www.gov.uk/prison-visits

All you need is:

  • the name and date of birth of the person you are visiting
  • their prisoner number.

You can choose up to 3 possible dates and times. Prison booking staff will check what's available and confirm your visit by email. 

If you've made an online visit booking request and haven't received a confirmation email within 1-3 working days, please email socialvisits.maidstone@hmps.gsi.gov.uk or call 01622 775619, lines open 10.00am - 2.00pm, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday.

You can also book by phoning 01622 775619, the phone line is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday :10.00 am – 12:30 pm and 13:30 pm – 14:30 pm

Only three visitors over 12 years old are allowed on a visit.

Additional information: Visiting Orders (VO's) can be used on weekdays or weekends. Privilege Visiting orders (PVO's) can only be used for weekday visits. The VO. entitlement is linked to the Incentives and Earned Privileges scheme and your allowance will depend on what I&EP level you are placed on. One VO can be converted into 2 x Privilege Visiting Orders (PVO's) and vice versa. Both VO's and PVO's are valid for 28 days from the date of issue.

Bookings may be made up to 4 weeks in advance. One booking may also be made in the Visits Centre. Nearest railway station is Maidstone East.

Book in at the Dinsmore Centre (this is located in County Road next to the main prison entrance) from 12:30. This centre is equipped with toilets, and baby changing facilities. You can book a visit at the Centre between 1pm and 2pm on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

The last visit time is 15:30. No booking can be taken for the same day.

How to get there: Maidstone Prison is situated on the northern edge of the County town of Kent.

  • Rail: The Prison is a short walk away from Maidstone East Railway Station which has direct links from London Victoria (2 trains per hour). On leaving the station, County Road is directly in front of you with County Hall on the left, approx. 100 yards along this road is the Prison Visitors' Centre and the main prison gate.
  • To the Dinsmore Centre: The entrance to the Dinsmore Centre is located next to the main gate of the prison.
  • Bus: There are a number of buses into the centre of Maidstone. The ideal stop to use is for County Hall, this is situated by Maidstone East station – please use the directions above to the Main Prison.
  • Car: From London M2 (coast bound) come off at junction 3 and follow signs to Maidstone Town Centre. From London M20 (Coast bound) come off at junction 6 and follow signs to Maidstone Town centre. The prison is situated next door to County Hall.
  • There are no car parks at HMP Maidstone but there are a number of civic car parks within a very short distance of the prison, both long and short stay.
