The Visits Centre is open for booking visits from 0900 hours for legal and closed visits.   For social visits the Visits Centre is open for booking at 13:15 hours daily.   It is suggested that you attend the Visits Centre 45 minutes prior to your visit for domestic and Cat A visits.   If you do not book in at the requested time, it is possible that your visit will not be allowed to commence.    If you are visiting for the first time, you will need to bring 2 forms of photo identification, and then 1 form of photo identification for subsequent visits from there on.   For advice on what photo identification that will be accepted please contact the Visits Centre on 01618175662.

People attending the establishment for visits should make themselves aware of the dress code.  The following will not be accepted: ripped/distressed jeans, football shirts, see through or revealing tops including tops that reveal cleavage, uniforms (except school uniform). Further advice is available by contacting the Visits Centre on the above number

Property can be handed in at the Visits Centre from 09:00 to 10:30 hours, please bring 2 forms of photo identification.

Booking information: Initial Reception Visit can be booked directly on 0161 817 5655. Additional visits are then booked by the prisoner using the Kiosk system which is available on every wing.

Additional information: There is a staffed Visitor's Centre with a Canteen and Children's Play Area.  Visitors should allow sufficient time at the beginning of their first visit for details to be taken, also if they are handing in property. Visitor centre number is 0161 817 5630.

How to get there:
HMP Manchester is located one mile north of the city centre.

Bus: Numbers 134 and 135 from Manchester city centre travel along Cheetham Hill Road, four minutes walk from the prison.
Train: Manchester Piccadilly or Manchester Victoria are the nearest stations. From Victoria: The prison can be reached by either a five minute walk or taxi from Victoria Station. From Piccadilly:(i) Take the Metrolink (Manchester Tram System) to Victoria then as above.(ii) Taxi - ten minutes journey across Manchester city centre.(iii) Thirty minute walk. Follow directions for Manchester Cathedral. The prison is five minutes walk from the Cathedral.
Car: From South, M6 to Junction 19, A556/M56 signposted Manchester, A56 to Bury. Prison is on right hand side of road half a mile from the city centre.

From North/East/West, M60 Manchester Ring Road (formerly M62) to Junction 17, (A56). Take A56 to Manchester (4½ miles). Prison is on the left before Manchester city centre.
