  • The establishment has a wide range of training, educational and personal development opportunities.
  • Vocational Training includes:
  • Bricklaying, Painting and Decorating, Carpentry and Joinery, Fork Lift Truck, Horticulture, Recycling Workshop, Multi-Skills in Construction, CSCS (With card being available), BICS Music, Performing Manufacturing Operations, Railtrack.
  • NVQ's are also provided through the Industries Workshops.
  • All areas of employment have industry relevant qualifications attached to them where applicable.  All areas develop and recognise employability and social development skills.
  • Various courses run by the PE Department including: Gym Instructor Level 1, 2 and 3, The Award In Lifestyle Management, Football and Rugby Academies,  Remedial and Substance Miss-Use Support GYM Sessions and the Smoke Stop program.  We also have prison sports teams for Football and Rugby which play matches against outside clubs.
  • Education courses (part and full time) which include Comprehensive Assessment and delivery for those from pre-entry through to level 3 qualifications. The range of courses covers academic and arts subjects.
  • Catch 22 provide a comprehensive Resettlement service supported by other agencies in order to facilitate transition into the community.
  • Portland offers a comprehensive Substance Misuse Service covering all psychosocial and clinical needs.
  • The establishment operates the listener's scheme for those prisoners deemed to be at risk from suicide or self harm.
