7th Update, September 2008 - this update contains
- The changes to The Criminal Procedure Rules 2005 made by The Criminal Procedure (Amendment) Rules 2008, affecting rules about: representatives (Part 2); service of documents outside England and Wales (Part 4); starting a prosecution in a magistrates' court (Part 7); summary trial (Part 37); sentencing children and young persons (Part 44); road traffic penalties (Part 55); appeals to the Crown Court (Part 63); appeals to the Court of Appeal - general rules (Part 65); appeals to the Court of Appeal against a ruling at a preliminary hearing (Part 66); appeals to the Court of Appeal about conviction or sentence (Part 68); and about costs orders against the parties (Part 78).
- The changes to the Consolidated Criminal Practice Direction (i) at paragraph I.1 as a consequence of a Court Dress Practice Direction handed down by the Lord Chief Justice on 21 December 2007, which came into force on 2nd January 2008; (ii) made by amendment number 19 which was handed down by the President of the Queen's Bench Division on 19th March 2008 and which came into force on 7th April 2008. Amendment 19 changed the forms in Annex D for use in connection with Part 50 (Civil behaviour orders after verdict or finding) of the Criminal Procedure Rules. Finally, (iii) amendment number 20, Court Dress, handed down by the Lord Chief Justice on 31 July 2008, introduced a new paragraph I.1.2 about robes to be worn by High Court Judges hearing criminal cases, which comes into force on 1st October 2008.
