Lasting Power of Attorney

Important information if you are sending an application to register an Enduring or Lasting Power of Attorney on or after 1st October 2011

From the 1st October 2011 the LPA/EPA Application to Register Fee will be increasing from £120 to £130.

This increase follows the Governments recent response to proposals on changes to the Office of the Public Guardian fees. A new fees remission policy will also come in to force and be available from the 1st October 2011.

The standard Lasting Power of Attorney forms (instruments) and continuation sheets can be completed and saved electronically using the latest version of the Adobe Acrobat Reader software.

Making a Lasting Power of Attorney

For customers who are blind or partially sighted and use a reader on their PC, we have the LPA creation forms (the instruments, the continuation sheets and the spare Part C) available in Word format for completion electronically. These are not available on the website so if you need these forms please call our Customer Services on 0300 456 0300 or e-mail us and a set will be emailed to you.

Registering a Lasting Power of Attorney

A fee of £130 is charged for the application to register each Lasting Power of Attorney.

Fees can be paid either by credit or debit card, or by cheque.

If you wish to pay by debit or credit card, please indicate this clearly in your application form or covering letter and provide your telephone number.

Cheques should be made payable to 'The Office of the Public Guardian'. Cheques should be made payable to 'The Office of the Public Guardian'.

Important: Please note that:

the 2007 version of the LPA forms can only be registered providing your form was signed by 31 March 2011 and has been completed correctly. After 1 April (if you did not sign a 2007 version of the LPA form by 31 March 2011) you will need to use the new forms which can be downloaded on this page
these forms are for registration of your LPA only. You will need to include either a 'Lasting Power of Attorney for Property and Financial Affairs (the instrument)' form or a 'Lasting Power of Attorney for Health and Welfare (the instrument)' form.
