Universal Periodic Review

The Universal Periodic Review (UPR) is a process through which the human rights records of the United Nations’ 193 Member States are reviewed and assessed.

The United Kingdom is a strong supporter of the UPR process and the Ministry of Justice is leading on the UK's preparations for UPR.

On the 5th March 2012, the Ministry of Justice submitted a report on behalf of the UK to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.

In May 2012, the UK will take part in a public examination of its human rights record at the Human Rights Council in Geneva. The Ministry of Justice will continue to engage with representatives of civil society in the run up to the examination.
