Civil Service people survey
The 2011 Civil Service people survey took place in September/October last year and involved over 100 organisations across the Civil Service.
A key element of the people survey is the ‘employee engagement index’. This is a measure of how engaged employees are with their work and is calculated from responses to five of the key questions in the people survey:
- I am proud when I tell others I am part of [the organisation]
- I would recommend [the organisation] as a great place to work
- I feel a strong personal attachment to [the organisation]
- [The organisation] inspires me to do the best in my job
- [The organisation] motivates me to help it achieve its objectives
Research in the private and public sector suggests organisations with high levels of engagement are more efficient and effective. The Ministry of Justice employee engagement index was calculated at 53 percent this year. This is the same as last year and is four percent higher than the benchmark for Civil Service organisations with more than 7,500 staff.
The Ministry of Justice highlight report is a composite report of the results for the organisations in the Ministry of Justice ‘family’ that took part in the 2011 Civil Service People Survey.
This includesthe National Offender Management Service, Her Majesty’s Courts and Tribunals Service, Ministry of Justice HQ, the Office of the Public Guardian, the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority, and The National Archives.
It also includes the Legal Services Commission, the Scotland Office, the Wales Office, and the Northern Ireland Office. The highlight reports for these last three organisations are available on their individual websites.
