The Law Commission is an independent body, sponsored by the Ministry of Justice (MoJ). The Commission was created by the Law Commissions Act 1965 with the role of keeping under review the law of England and Wales with a view to its systematic development and reform. Commissioners are appointed by the Lord Chancellor.

The role of Commissioner is a unique opportunity to contribute to law reform.  Acting in the public interest, the Commissioners can make a real difference for citizens, businesses and for lawyers themselves.  Any leading lawyer will have views on areas of the law that are ripe for reform; joining the Commission gives you the chance to make that happen.  Of course, you will need to make the case for the projects you identify, convincing your fellow Commissioners and Ministers that your arguments are sound when the next Law Commission programme is under development – starting 2010.
