The United Kingdom has submitted a report to the United Nations on how it is fulfilling its human rights obligations, as part of the UN's periodic review of member states.
The report outlines the government's work in promoting and protecting human rights at home and abroad, and identifies a number of key priorities to reinforce and uphold human rights.
The report will be assessed under 'universal periodic review', a new procedure at the United Nations which involves a constructive three-hour discussion of information provided by the country under review, by stakeholders, and by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.
The review is scheduled to take place at the United Nations in Geneva on 10 April 2008.
