The Family Procedure Rule Committee has published details of its meetings on July and October 2008.

July 2008

The Family Procedure Rule Committee held its third open meeting, attracting a number of observers who were able to put questions to the committee at the conclusion of the morning's business.

The committee continued its scrutiny of draft Family Procedure Rules relating to matrimonial and civil partnership proceedings. It also discussed provisions for inclusion in the new draft rules relating to the representation of children and protected parties.

The committee considered amendments to existing rules to support the Children and Adoption Act 2006 and the Forced Marriage (Civil Protection) Act 2007 and approved proposed amendments to the Family Procedure (Adoption) Rules 2005.

The working party established by the committee to work through comments from members on the Master Document rules and practice directions met to conclude its consideration of the comments before reporting back to the full committee.

October 2008

The committee addressed outstanding issues relating to the development of rules concerning the representation of children, service of documents, the registration and enforcement of orders, international child abduction and transitional provisions. The committee then gave final consideration to the draft rules and practice directions upon which it proposes to consult.

Draft practice directions, revised by the working party, were submitted to the committee and approved with minor adjustments.
