An update on changes to the Criminal Procedure Rules between March 2006 and October 2007.
October 2007
The fourth amendment of the Criminal Procedure Rules 2005 came into force on 1 October 2007. This introduced new rules for appeals to the Court of Appeal and about applications to change a guilty plea.
The statutory instrument, The Criminal Procedure (Amendment No. 2) Rules 2007, was laid in Parliament on 8 August 2007.
March 2007
The third amendment came into force on 2 April 2007 and introduced new rules about service of documents (part 4), the indictment (part 14) and witness summonses, warrants and orders (part 28). Amendments were made to the rules about bail (part 19) and about restrictions on cross-examination by a defendant in person (part 31).

October 2006
The second amendment came into force on 6 November 2006 and introduced the first rules about expert evidence (part 33) and rules about evidence of a complainant's previous sexual behavour (part 36). Revised rules about service of documents (part 4), starting proceedings in the magistrates' courts (part 7), disclosure (part 24) and special measures directions (part 29) were also made.
The Criminal Procedure (Amendment No. 2) Rules 2006
March 2006
The first amendment came into force on 3 April 2006 and introduced a new part on preparatory hearings in serious fraud and other complex or lengthy hearings in the Crown Court (part 15), and a new part about warrants (part 18).
The Criminal Procedure (Amendment) Rules 2006
The Criminal Procedure Rules 2005 came into force on 4 April 2005.
