Suma has been Permanent Secretary of the Department for International Development since 2002, where he has successfully led the Department through a period of considerable organisational change. The Capability Review of DfID received the highest rating of any Department in Whitehall. He has held a number of posts across Whitehall, including at HMT and at Cabinet Office, where he created the Performance and Innovation Unit and went on to head the Economic and Domestic Affairs Secretariat.
