The consultation paper 'The Governance of Britain - Managing Protest around Parliament' was published today.
It stems from 'The Governance of Britain' green paper, released on 3 July 2007. In that paper the Government made a commitment to consult on the provisions in the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act 2005 which cover demonstrations in the vicinity of Parliament with a view to ensuring that people's right to protest is not subject to unnecessary restrictions.
'Managing Protest around Parliament' reviews sections 132-138 of the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act 2005, and explores whether there is an alternative framework that better upholds and facilitates protest, while giving police the appropriate powers to keep the peace.
The Governance of Britain - Managing Protest around Parliament is available on the Home Office website.
