The Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, has today formed his new government and appointed the Rt Hon Jack Straw MP as the new Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice.
Other ministerial appointments to the Ministry of Justice will be published as they are announced.
Biography
Jack Straw has previously served as Leader of the House of Commons, Secretary of State for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, and Home Secretary.
In opposition he served as shadow Home Secretary, shadow Environment Secretary and shadow Education Secretary.
He is married with one son and one daughter.
Education
Leeds University. He was called to the Bar in 1972. He is a visiting Fellow of Nuffield College Oxford and a Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society.
