His Honour Sir Stephen Oliver QC retires as a salaried Judge of the Upper Tribunal and as Acting President of the Tax Chamber of the First-tier Tribunal on 6 April 2011.

Sir Stephen John Lindsay Oliver QC is 72. He was called to the Bar (M) in 1963 and took Silk in 1980. He was appointed as an Assistant Recorder in 1985, as a Chairman of the then VAT and Duties Tribunal in 1989 and as a Recorder in February 1989. He became a Vice President of the VAT and Duties Tribunal and a Circuit Judge in November 1991. In 1992 he was appointed as a Chairman of the then Income and Corporation Tax Tribunal, a President of the VAT and Duties Tribunal and Presiding Special Commissioner of Income Tax and resigned from the Circuit Bench to concentrate on those tax roles. In 1998, he was appointed as a Deputy High Court Judge, as President of the Financial Services and Markets Tribunal in 2000 and as President of the Pensions Regulatory Tribunal in 2005.
