Legal Services Board issues open letter to regulators

The Chief Executive (Designate) of the Legal Services Board Chris Kenny has today sent an open letter to each of the approved regulators designated under the Legal Services Act 2007.
The letter deals with the issue of appointments to independent regulatory boards and it follows recent public comment from the Board's chairman, David Edmonds, and from the approved regulators themselves.

- The Legal Services Act 2007 provides for the creation of the Legal Services Board as the oversight regulator for legal services in England and Wales. Additional background is available on the Ministry of Justice website.
- The Chairman of the Board was appointment by the Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice Jack Straw, on 23 April 2008 and took up post on 1 May 2008. The first nine members of the Board have been appointed and took up their posts on 1 September 2008. Chris Kenny was appointed as the first Chief Executive of the Board on 2 October 2008, and will take up the post formally on 1 January 2009.
