The Ministry of Justice has appointed a new director general for its finance and commercial divisions.
Marco Pierleoni who starts his new role in January 2008 is currently a finance director in the private sector, specialising in the European soft drinks market.
Marco has 19 years' experience in finance and commerce, having worked in a range of areas, including energy, food trading and distribution and farming.
Alex Allan, Ministry of Justice Permanent Secretary, said:
'Marco has extensive financial and commercial experience from his private sector roles. I am pleased he is joining the Ministry of Justice.
'He will take forward the significant role of leading the department's financial and commercial activities, joining the Ministry of Justice at a time of its continued development as relatively new to Whitehall.'
Of his appointment, Marco Pierleoni's first outside the private sector, he said:
'A major player in Whitehall, the Ministry of Justice has a crucial commercial role to play in so many different areas of society, from responsibility for the legal aid budget to having a large estate including courts and prisons.
'I'm very much looking forward to working in a totally new environment with new challenges.'

1. The Ministry of Justice was formed on 9 May 2007, and includes the National Offender Management Service from the Home Office, and the Department for Constitutional Affairs.
2. Marco Pierleoni will join the Ministry of Justice from Acorn Brands Ltd. Previously he spent 13 years with Vestey Group Ltd, where he was finance director.
3. Marco is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and has an MSc from Imperial College, London.
4. He is married with two children.
