Rosanna O'Connor has been appointed as a member of the Youth Justice Board and will take up her position with immediate effect, Home Office Minister, Baroness Scotland announced today.

Rosanna O'Connor has been appointed as a member of the Youth Justice Board and will take up her position with immediate effect, Home Office Minister, Baroness Scotland announced today. Baroness Scotland said:

"I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Rosanna O'Connor as a member of the Youth Justice Board. Her experience as Director of Regional Management at the National Treatment Agency and her particular expertise in partnership working and commissioning will make a valuable contribution to the work of the YJB.

Gerry Sutcliffe, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Ministry of Justice said:

"I am also very pleased by the appointment of Rosanna O'Connor as a member of the Youth Justice Board and welcome her skills and experience."

The appointment was made by the Baroness Scotland after an open selection process conducted under the guidance of the Office of the Commissioner for Public Appointments.

Following her appointment, Rosanna O'Connor said:

"I am pleased and privileged to have the opportunity to take on this new and exciting role as a member of the Youth Justice Board and expect to be able to bring my experience within the social care field, and in particular of how substance misuse impacts on the lives of vulnerable young people, their families and communities, to my role as a Board member."

1. Rosanna O'Connor has been the Director of Regional Management at the National Treatment Agency (NTA) since April 2003. She manages the NTA's Regional Management Directorate - which is essentially the delivery arm of the NTA - comprising the nine regional teams, each based in one of the nine Government Offices in England, plus the NTA central programme teams for criminal justice, young people and adult treatment delivery, which incorporates the user & carer agendas.

2. Prior to joining the NTA, Rosanna held senior positions with two large social care organisations and has a wide experience of service provision for people, both adults and young people, with complex needs. Rosanna brings with her valuable experience from the voluntary sector of both operational and developmental roles and of operating at a senior level within the Whitehall setting. She also has first hand experience of local government politics having spent many years as a leading elected member of both a District and County Council.
