Clare Harbord

14 August 2007

The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has appointed a new director of communications.

Clare Harbord - who starts her new role on 15 October - joins the MoJ from power and gas company E.ON, where she is head of UK communications and responsible for all external and internal communications.

Clare started her career in journalism and has held senior positions both in-house and in consultancy in the energy and financial services sector.

Alex Allan, MoJ Permanent Secretary, said:

I am pleased to announce that Clare is joining the Ministry of Justice, bringing a broad range of communications experience.

She will take forward the important responsibility of communicating the role and work of the new department to the public and our stakeholders and will also ensure effective communications with our staff.

Of her appointment, Clare's first in central government, she said:

The new Ministry of Justice is responsible for some fundamental elements of our society - including the courts and the National Offender Management Service. It is also at the forefront of the relationship between government and the citizen through its work on constitutional and democratic renewal. It is a major player in Whitehall with a profile to match, and I'm delighted to be joining the department at such an exciting and challenging time.
