The Ministry of Justice has announced the appointment of 48 new members to the Parole Board for England and Wales.

Independent members, psychiatrists, psychologists and probation members will join the Parole Board for three years from 2 August 2010.

Justice Minister, Jonathan Djanogly said:

'We welcome the appointment of 48 new members. Their appointment will help with the very important work of the independent Parole Board.

'Members of the Parole Board are responsible for risk assessing prisoners and deciding whether they can be safely released into the community.

'I am confident these additional panel members will play an active role in continuing the high standard of work already set by existing members of the Parole Board.'
