Generic parole process review: stakeholder engagement exercise

The Parole Board and the Public Protection Casework Section (PPCS) of the National Offender Management Service (NOMS) have reviewed the generic parole process for indeterminate sentence prisoners. The programme of work ran throughout 2013.

The review was called ‘Streamlining the parole process together’ and it aimed to:

  • improve ways of working
  • avoid duplicating effort
  • remove unnecessary steps or processes that were preventing parole reviews being carried out quickly and effectively

The review produced a set of 42 proposals. Some have been carried out and some are still being developed. However, many of the proposals will need reviewing following the Supreme Court judgment in Osborn and Others.

Final proposals (published January 2014)

The final set of proposals were published for comment at the end of October 2012 and they have now been adapted following feedback. The ‘End-to-end review proposals’ spreadsheet lists the final proposals and sets out the response from NOMS and the Parole Board.

Stakeholder engagement exercise
