The Charter for Bereaved People brings together many of the services bereaved people will receive from coroners in a reformed system.

The Coroners and Justice Act provides for a new Charter for Bereaved People. The charter will be statutory guidance and bring together many of the services bereaved people will receive from coroners in a reformed system.

The current version of the charter was published in January 2009, following consultation in 2008.

We anticipate that the Chief Coroner, after appointment in 2010, will want to consult on a final version of the charter, which we expect will come into effect at the same time as other coroner reforms in the Act, in around April 2012.
