A report setting out the progress achieved on the key commitments made in the Governance of Britain programme for constitutional change on the first anniversary of the green paper.

The report provides a summary of commitments, progress and next steps under the following headings:

  • limiting the powers of the executive
  • making the executive more accountable
  • reinvigorating our democracy
  • Britain's future: the citizen and the state.

The publication of the report coincided with a written ministerial statement by Justice Secretary Jack Straw highlighting the progress made in renewing Britain's democracy and outlining steps for further constitutional reform.
