Democratic engagement

Crowd of people

Democratic engagement explores how to strengthen relations and dialogue between government, representatives and citizens in a changing society, and how to harness new ways of engaging.

We lead on democratic engagement on a national level. Our programme covers:

  • development of engagement methods
  • sharing good practice across government
  • projects that provide young people with practical experiences of democracy
  • funding research into enhancing the involvement of the public in democratic processes.

We also provide secretariat support to the Youth Citizenship Commission, which was announced in the Governance of Britain Green Paper in July 2007.
