Development plans for the secure estate for children and young people
In March 2012, the YJB published its development plans for the secure estate for children and young people. This followed an extensive consultation exercise, which included seeking the views of children and young people in the secure estate. The development plans outline the YJB’s proposals for the secure estate for children and young people during the current spending review period until 2015. The plans set out the principles and priorities for the secure estate during this time, and will enable the YJB to deliver its objectives and to set a clear framework for the development of the secure estate for children and young people.
The development plans replace both the YJB’s previous strategy document, published in 2005, and the 2007 update.
Every Child Matters in custody
Delivering Every Child Matters in Secure Settings: A practical toolkit for improving the health and well-being of young people, which is on the NCB's website and was partially funded by us.
The toolkit, which will help practitioners deliver the objectives of Every Child Matters and related national standards and policies, sets out 27 health and well-being entitlements for young people in secure settings. By reviewing services and children's access to them against these entitlements, staff can be confident they are successfully helping to deliver the agenda for improving the health and well-being of young people in custody.
