Keppel Unit
The Keppel Unit at Wetherby YOI has been established to provide enhanced support to 15 to 17-year-old young men who for a variety of reason are not engaging - or are unlikely to engage - with the normal regime in a YOI.

Young people on long-term sentences
Presently there are three long-term sentence units within juvenile YOIs which specifically cater for 15-17 year olds who are serving indeterminate and long-term sentences. The aim of the units are to improve the life chances of the young people both in custody and on release, with an emphasis on working towards reducing reoffending and achieving parole.

Young people convicted of sexual offences
The YJB Placement Service acts as the main point of contact regarding all young people who are likely to be sentenced for a sexual offence and may require a secure placement.
