Dovegate Prison information
Dovegate is a male Category B training prison operated by Serco Justice and Immigration.
Opened in 2001, HMP Dovegate is a male Category B training prison caring for over 1133 male adult prisoners over the age of 21, most serving a range of long-term sentences. We also hold offenders on trial, remand, awaiting sentence and convicted men serving short sentences.
The prison also includes a separate 200-bed Therapeutic Community for repeat serious offenders. This is the only one that is privately-run in the UK, and the only purpose-built therapeutic facility. The unit offers its residents daily group therapy, which lasts between 18 months and 24 months. It also has a TC+ unit, one of only three TC+ sites in the UK. The TC+ provides a bespoke therapeutic environment for prisoners who have learning difficulties.
