Wormwood Scrubs is a Victorian-built 'local' prison, Category B which holds up to 1279 adult males in the early stages of custody remanded from local Magistrates and Crown Courts.

Reception Criteria:

Normal reception arrangements: Wormwood Scrubs is a local Category B prison and accepts all suitable male prisoners over the age of 18 from the courts.


The establishment has five main wings A – E plus a number of smaller units, a First Night Centre, a Healthcare Centre and a Conibeere/Drug Detox Unit. There is a mix of shared and single accommodation throughout the establishment.

All the accommodation has electricity and integral sanitation with a TV and accompanying furniture. There is a canteen facility to provide a large selection of consumables and toiletries for weekly purchase by the prisoners.
